My Future Apartment

12:00 AM

Way back in the fall semester, my roommates and I signed our lease for the apartment we decided to live in next year. The complex that we signed with is brand new to the area and very close to campus. We were so excited to live in apartments that would be finished within days before classes started. The only problem I had was that I had nowhere to live from August 1st until August 17th. Not a huge deal. I decided to stay with Paul for a little while and take a week to go back to Illinois. Every time I rode by the apartment complex, I got so excited about my soon-to-be apartment.

On Friday I received a couple emails from the apartment's leading office explaining that the apartments won't be done until 2-3 weeks after classes begin. Until then they would provide us with hotel rooms, shuttles, and a Visa gift card. Needless to say, I was a little surprised and frustrated. Even though I knew this was a possibility, I just didn't want to deal with it as a reality. Other universities have encountered similar issues so I knew that it was a bit of a gamble. I also figured that they would learn from others' mistakes and get this done on time. School is stressful enough without having to move in after classes have already started. I'm glad they took care of everything and gave us details before telling us what happened, but that doesn't change the fact that I'm practically homeless for a month.

Look, I know I'm probably making a bigger deal out of this than it actually is but being a military dependent I have spent time living in hotels and ordering in whatever will deliver. It's not fun after the first three hours or after I eat an entire pizza by myself, whichever comes first. Obviously they're doing what they can and I just have to make the best of it, but I really just want to move into the apartment and start getting everything in place. The beginning of my senior year of college is already off to a memorable start, to say the least. I can't wait to update you with the hotel life as well as how my apartment is when I finally get to see it (if I ever get to see it).
