Nightly Routine

Most of you probably don't care about how I fall asleep. But for anyone who has trouble sleeping like I do, you might actually care to read this. And I want something to reference in case I somehow fall out of this routine and need to figure out how the hell to fall asleep. I'm just going to preface this by saying that what works for me may not work for you. It's about figuring out a routine and schedule that works for you, and then sticking to it. I have tried melatonin and sleeping pills, and they didn't help. I tried Benadryl and it eventually had no effect on me. I realized that this wasn't going to work because I really just needed a routine I could easily follow.
clean & clear night relaxing deep cleaning face wash // I wash my face twice a day: once in the morning with face wash with caffeine in it, and once before he's with face wash that is specially formulated for calming people down at night. Having a clean face helps as it is, but the smell really does help me relax.
febreze sleep serenity // Not sure if this is new or I'm just late to the party, but Febreze has a line of products that are designed to help you sleep. I purchased this just a couple days ago, but I've incorporated it into my nightly routine and I'm already in love with it. I have the moonlit lavender scent, but there is also a jasmine scent as well as a milk and honey scent.  If you don't like spray, check out their other products.

clearing my mind and avoiding electronics // I cannot sleep if I have a million things on my mind or if I have my phone or laptop in front of me. I usually write down any thoughts for tomorrow or read a book before sleeping, and try to stay away from my phone.

As I'm sure you've heard, it also really helps if you avoid caffeine in the late afternoon and exercise earlier in the evening rather than later. I've also found that it's a lot easier to go to sleep at the same time each night if you also wake up at the same time each morning.  So waking up at 6:00am each morning basically guarantees that I'll want to go to sleep by about 11:30pm each night.  It's all about finding out what works best for you, but a great night's sleep makes the next day completely different.  And if that doesn't work, I recommend a peach green tea lemonade.
